Kilfenora dancer stars in Oireachtas

Ada Kenny performed brilliantly against stiff opposition to come second in the All-Ireland sean-nos dancing competition at Oireachtas na Samhna 2016, staged in Killarney on 4-5 November.

There were 60 competitors in her 12-15 age group who competed on Friday. Other age groups were under 9, under 12, under 18 and senior. Also competing in her age group from Kilfenora were her sister Eva, Laura Griffey and Keira McInerney.

The final 10 from each age group competed again on Saturday, as shown on television on TG4. It was very difficult to choose a winner, but Eva was pipped by Rian MacEoghan fron Roscommon.

Conor Moriarty, all-Ireland Champion on accordion in 2010 provided brilliant accompaniment on melodeon throughout the final, a herculean feat in itself.

Congratulations to the Kenny family in particular and to Aibhin Holden, Kilfenora’s distinguished dancing coach.
