A great time was had in Kilfenora Hall on Saturday 26 November as members of the village’s GAA football team – intermediate Clare champions 2016 – competed for the title of Mr Kilfenora Dazzler. The event raised nearly €2000 for the Haiti Hurricane and Kilfenora Senior Citizens charity funds.
The competition judges were three well-known Kilfenora parish figures – Maggie Vaughan, John Howard, Julianne O’Loughlin plus Lisdoonvarna thespian Gerry Howard (no stranger to appearances in Kilfenora Hall).
In typical Kilfenora fashion there was plenty of live music, courtesy of Linnanes pub ‘house band’ – James Devitt, JJ Conway, Siobhan O’Donoghue, Shona Long, Colin Nea, Adrian Lyons and Aine O’Donoghue. Judith Davoren sang us some songs, and Tomas Murrihy did some step-dancing at half time.
MC Orla Vaughan interviewed the competitors – Paul Carkill, Jack O’Dea, Micheal Duffy, Aidan Long, Cian O’Dea, Paudie Ireland and Cillian Malone – who each did a party piece, and took questions from the judges.
Paul Carkill demonstrated his flute prowess, Michael Duffy came as a referee and gave us a ditty, Aidan did an energetic brush dance, Paudie exemplified his family traditions as a Guard and sang a witty Xmas song, Jackie (aka Jack) did a simply lovely walk, his brother Cian whistled a bit and showed off his ball skills, and Cillian Malone tried to surpass him by undressing (just a little!) while ball-juggling and failed to fall off stage doing a handstand.
While the judges ruminated on their choice of a winner, the Donald made a flying visit fresh from one of the Trump Towers, accompanied by his security ‘heavies’, and bantered with MC Orla. The judges complimented the contestants for their brave performances, and finally settled on the glamorous Jackie as the 2016 Kilfenora Dazzler!
