The Kilfenora Timeline is a local voluntary project which takes the visitor on a historic journey though the life of this community. It is housed in the Cathedral located just off the Square in Kilfenora.
Situated in the ancient Barony of Corcomroe on the edge of the Burren, Kilfenora is first mentioned in the Book of Rights (450-900 AD). Evidence of people living here since Celtic times can be seen in the artefacts displayed in the nearby Burren Centre.
Noted throughout history for the quality of its produce, for its Ecclastical development, its survival through times of conflict and famine to its revitalisation through trade, education and music, Kilfenora continues as a vibrant community. The creation of The Burren Centre in 1975 – expanded in 2000 – to promote the uniqueness of this area is an example of a community that continues to strive towards the future.
The ancient Cathedral and Holy Crosses also attract people to Kilfenora.
Kilfenora Timeline hopes that you will enjoy taking a look into our past. A voluntary donation of just €2 is appreciated to help the running of the project.
